COOL! ThreeA Toys...

Well, it's no secret that I'm a fan of Ashley Wood. I've blogged about his work and toys on MUHSASHUM previously, here. Anyhow, as I had hinted, I've joined the 3A Legion - a forum/hyperboard for fans of everything ThreeA. This would be the first forum that I've joined in recent memory... where the members are all equally crazy (crazy fans of ThreeA that is). The forum has interesting contests for art and photos, which gives me a legitimate reason to 'play' with my toys (they're not really toys IMO, but serious pieces of functional art and design). ;D


Here is an image of my Ashley Wood book collection... it's constantly expanding. I think the lot of it is here... some may still be hidden amongst the other books on my shelves. ;P If you don't know who Ashley Wood is... shame on you! Go visit his blog now!


Finally, here is the image that I've entered into the 3A Legion's July Photo Contest - 'Dirty Deeds = Dirty Shadows?' I originally entered the group photo at the top of this post, but decided to go with this more humorous pic...

No Photoshop was used in post production, just for the crop. A whole lot of time was spent trying to get DDB's hands just right though... hopefully, you can see the same end result as Nom.

I'm looking forward to posting more photos and artwork to the forum and interacting with the members. Did I mention that Ashley Wood (the man himself!) also posts/interacts with members on this forum? Now, HOW COOL IS THAT? ;D

Take-G Toy's - Amazing Wooden Toys

Takeji Nakagawa aka Take-G, is an insanely talented Japanese craftsman who produces unique and stunningly beautiful wooden 'toys'. Take-G's toys are constructed using Yosegi-Mokuzougan, or joined wooden block construction. The craft involves the combination of original and unique colours and textures of different kinds of wood to express artistic patterns. You have to see his work! COOL! Hot Toys Joker...

About a week back I received a parcel in the mail from my sister in Hong Kong. Inside was the Hot Toys 1/6th scale Joker figure from the Dark Knight Batman movie... needless to say I was blown away! I've finally had the opportunity to open it...


The attention to detail on this figure, and it's accessories is second to none... sadly, I don't think my pics can do the real thing justice. It's truly one quality piece!

Curse of the Amazon.ca

Just a little rant... for those of you who are unfamiliar with me, I am a collector of sorts... I collect all types of things, ranging from found ephemera to toys, movies, books and more. Anyhow, I was going through my bookmarks and came across this neat experimental flash site called Amaztype. It's a neat little program that searches through a user specified Amazon locale, for images that match your search word (see image). I felt it was appropriate considering how much I love/hate Amazon. I'll admit, I use Amazon for most of my book purchases, majority of which have become online... this is where the curse comes in. I don't know about anyone else but, I've found the online shopping movement to be a curse altogether... its far too easy to make purchases online and forget about them... the fact that Amazon doesn't charge your credit card until they ship doesn't help the fact either...

Ashley Wood's WWR Bertie...

Well, after receiving some rather terrible news this past weekend at the Dentist, I was rather pleased to arrive home this evening to be greeted by this package... guess who arrived in the mail? Bertie!!!


I was rather impressed by the size of the box (I thought both my Berties were inside, turns out that it's just Desert Rat Bertie!)...


I was pleased to find some cool Ashley Wood art on the side of the box...


...and as I began to open the box, I came across what must be the limited edition giclee print...


...it is! Number 27/50,


and underneath it was the beautiful box (within the box ;P ) holding Desert Rat Bertie! Now, anyone who's seen my room will know that I tend to keep my toys in the box... but, I'm tempted to break that tradition for this one... before I go tearing into the package, I thought I'd take a quick poll to see what others think? Do you want to see the rest of the un-boxing or should I leave Bertie, mint-in-the-box? Vote soon, poll closes Friday the 13th!

'Munny, Munny, Munny... Munny!'

I picked up a DIY Munny by KidRobot over the weekend. I was extremely happy to find a shop locally (Urban Waves in Osborne Village) that sells designer Vinyl toys! I've got a couple Munny concepts in the works... I'll be sure to document (or at least try to) the creative process. I'm looking forward to it! Should be lots of fun... there are SO many cool custom Munny's its crazy! Just do a Google image search for Custom Munny and you'll see what I mean.

COOL! C4 - Central Canada Comic Con...

I hope everyone enjoyed, and had a safe Halloween weekend! On Saturday, I visited C4 - the Central Canada Comic Con, held in Winnipeg at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

It was my first time attending a comic con at the convention centre, and it was definitely the largest one that I've been to in Winnipeg. It was held for the first time at the convention centre last year (if I recall correctly), which I had to miss cause I was in Vegas... ;)




I enjoyed the time I spent wandering around photographing the costumed attendees (until my camera battery died)... ;P


...in addition to checking out all the toys and comics - which was actually a bit depressing when you see something you own selling for much less than what you paid for... ;(

COOL! G.I. Joe Movie Snake Eyes...

This is beyond cool. I didn't even know that there was a live action G.I. Joe movie in production... it's scheduled for release in 2009. I must say, after seeing this 'first look' at Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars) as Snake Eyes, I have high hopes for the feature film. I have fond childhood memories of watching G.I. Joe cartoons, as well as playing with the toys with my younger brother (he enlightened me with this link). Hopefully it lives up to our expectations.
