COOL! Hot Toys Joker...

About a week back I received a parcel in the mail from my sister in Hong Kong. Inside was the Hot Toys 1/6th scale Joker figure from the Dark Knight Batman movie... needless to say I was blown away! I've finally had the opportunity to open it...

The attention to detail on this figure, and it's accessories is second to none... sadly, I don't think my pics can do the real thing justice. It's truly one quality piece!

Why so serious?... ;)

I've uploaded pics from the un-boxing to my Flickr account. If you're interested you can see them, here - enjoy!

Thanks Sis!

COOL! Flight of Fusion Man...

If you've watched the recently released movie Iron Man (I highly recommend you go watch it if you haven't yet), then you'll have an idea as to how cool it could be to fly. That being said, have you seen this yet? The flight of fusion man (Yves Rossy) video above, documents Yves' test flight over the Swiss Alps... you have to see it to believe it. Watch the video on YouTube here - enjoy!

Learn more about Fusion Man on his website at http://www.fusionman.ch/ - cheers!

COOL! G.I. Joe Movie Snake Eyes...

This is beyond cool. I didn't even know that there was a live action G.I. Joe movie in production... it's scheduled for release in 2009. I must say, after seeing this 'first look' at Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars) as Snake Eyes, I have high hopes for the feature film. I have fond childhood memories of watching G.I. Joe cartoons, as well as playing with the toys with my younger brother (he enlightened me with this link). Hopefully it lives up to our expectations. You can see more 'first look' pictures of other characters here - enjoy!

It seems that this year is turning out to be a year of Superhero movies. . There's the soon to be released Iron Man movie, The Dark Knight (Batman), The Incredible Hulk (trailer linked above), as well as Will Smith's Hancock. Did I miss anything? Anyhow, should be a good time and I'm looking forward to it! Oh yeah... there's also Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Cheers! ;)

COOL! Short Video on YouTube about Typography and Font Design...

As a follow-up to my 'Fontastic Fun' post, check out the above (made for TV) YouTube video short on typography and font design featuring interviews with Steven Heller, Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones. It's a rather basic overview but, worth watching anyhow. Check it out on YouTube here.

In Response to 'Who Would Portray Me...'

Okay, I'm throwing myself into the fire with this one... ;) As a follow up to my Tuesday, February 5th post about, Design Observers - 15 Minutes of Fame, I've been asked who I would want to portray me. Well, after giving it some thought (j/k, not very much actually)... the above two Chinese actors rose to the surface. On the left we have potential candidate number one, Julian Cheung aka Chi Lam, on the right we have candidate number two, Raymond Lam aka Lam Fung, with me in the middle for reference... I've been told in the past (on multiple occasions) that I resemble both of these actors. What do you think?

Personally, I cringe at the thought of being portrayed by someone else... but, it's fun to think about who might be cast as you. ;)

You can visit Raymond's Fan site here (if you want) and one of Julian's here. Sorry, but the sites will likely be Chinese. ;)

*Ask me for an 8 x 10" glossy sometime (I'll throw in the autograph for free)! LOL...

Recommended Viewing | Fifteen Minutes of Fame via Design Observer...

There's a great post over on Design Observer - Fifteen Minutes of Fame, which I highly recommend you check out. Following closely on the popularity of the past summer's blockbuster hit documentary film, Helvetica - the folks over at Design Observer have compiled a tongue-in-cheek list for the cast of Graphic Design: The Movie (a fictional film as far as I am aware)... the casting is ongoing with the list being updated periodically as readers add their submissions.

Who would you want to portray you in a documentary film? An interesting question to ponder... ;) Anyhow, check out the original post on Design Observer here - enjoy!

Watch Helvetica: The Movie - ONLINE NOW!

If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch the Helvetica documentary film online now via Google Video here - enjoy! Via Computer Arts Daily, via Best Documentaries Online blog.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Gary Hustwit (who was very pleasant), it appears that the video was uploaded illegally and Google Video will be pulling the video from their servers shortly (I had a suspicion ;P).

If you're still interested in watching the film, I suggest that you look into purchasing the DVD. Visit the Helvetica Film shop at http://www.helveticafilm.com/shop.html - Cheers!

Recommended | Broke Trek - a Star Trek Brokeback Mountain parody

LOL... This video on YouTube just made me spray coffee all over my computer monitor. Some very clever video editing (in my opinion) and a frightening familiarity with the original Star Trek TV series. Worth checking out! See the video here on YouTube.

Helvetica Film Deluxe DVD Boxset…

I received my copy of the Helvetica Film DVD Boxset which I blogged about a while back (08/17/2007). I'm such a sucker for these 'deluxe' packages, included in this boxset was the DVD, three letterpress prints, a still from the film signed by Gary Hustwit, one "I love Helvetica" badge, one "I hate Helvetica" badge and a piece of vintage Helvetica metal type (actually it's Helvetica Bold Extended), from the Stempel Foundry, c.1970s (I got a lowercase Z). I'm looking forward to watching the film again, as well as checking out the DVD extra features (95 minutes of bonus interviews), stay tuned for more to come - cheers!

COOL! Paul Rand Tribute Video

Via Nancy Wu and the GDC Listserve:

Helvtica Film Winnipeg Show

'Helvetica - A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit' showed tonight at Cinemateque in Winnipeg. Sadly, there was only one showing of the film, which was sold-out in record time. Apparently, many people that wanted to see the film were unable to see it. Overall, I enjoyed the film and thought that it was well put together. I'll reserve my full review for after I've had the chance to review the DVD Boxset. I can't wait to get it! Cheers!

*Note: Apparently the theatre plans to run the film for three nights some time in November... so don't fret if you wanted to see the film but weren't able to this time around, you'll get another chance soon enough!
