GDC MB Lunch Talk w/ Tétro Design...

Yesterday, we had the first GDC Manitoba Lunch Talk for the Fall season, "Designing the GDC National Website." This lunch talk was presented by Paul and Andrea Tétrault (Tétro Design), and focused on the design of the 'front-end' of the new GDC National Website (CMS/'back-end' coding powered by SmallBox Software).

The presentation was well attended, informative and enlightening... I think Tétro has done a great job, and deserve applause/thanks from all the GDC. You can see more pictures from Paul and Andrea's presentation on my Flickr, or via the GDC Manitoba/GDC National Flickr Pools - enjoy! Thanks again to Tétro, for a job well done!

The GDC Manitoba Lunch Talks, are part of the Manitoba Chapters' ongoing professional development activities... as the current Activities Chair for the GDC Manitoba Chapter, I'm looking forward to the lunch talks and activities we've got planned down the road! Look for more information to come... visit the GDC Manitoba Chapter website often, for more information and updates as they become available - cheers!

The Rather Difficult Font Game...

I've been having lots of fun with this latest online font quiz, The Rather Difficult Font Game created by the author of Say It Ain't Slow: A simple blog about high performance websites... I have yet to achieve a perfect score, the highest I've managed is 33 out of 34... I always seem to mess up one of the san serifs (and I have to admit I wasn't familiar with some of the fonts used). Anyhow, try it out for yourself and see if you can join the ranks of those in the hall of fame with a perfect 34/34, check it out at http://ajax.sayitaintslow.com/fontgame/ - enjoy!

The newly redesigned Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) website has now gone live. Designed by Winnipeg's own, Tetro Design and powered by Smallbox Software (CMS), the new site is full of resources for business and designers. *Note: As with any new website launch a period of debugging will occur/be required... if you come across anything that isn't working properly on the new site, please contact the GDC webmaster via the Contact link .

HOT (or not)! Command Shift 3...

Friend and fellow designer, Paul Kletke recently brought the Command Shift 3 website to my attention. Some of you may remember the popular (and still going strong) website Hot or Not... well, Command Shift 3 is like that but with a slight twist... instead of rating people, you're rating websites. Worth checking out? You decide... see for yourself at http://commandshift3.com/ - cheers!

Recommended | DesignNotes by Micheal Surtees

DesignNotes is a blog published by Michael Surtees, a prolific designer, photographer and avid design enthusiast. I had the pleasure of meeting Michael at my graduation Open House in 2005 when he was in town for the GDC AGM. At the time, Michael was the President of the Alberta North chapter of the GDC, since then he's migrated south across the border to the 'Big Apple' where he's currently working. Check out Michael's most recent blog posting about the typographic walking tour he recently completed with Tobias Frere-Jones and be sure to check out his Flickr pix from the tour. Check it out at http://designnotes.info/ - Go Michael! Cheers!

COOL! 'Best Web Gallery' Website

I mentioned Best Web Gallery in my previous posting about Nick La's, Web Designer Wall. Best Web Gallery is an inspirational gallery site where they've collected a wide range of quality design websites (Flash & CSS), blogs and resources. Beside the gallery, they also have extra side notes, where they post interesting URLs, resource links, and any design related news. I noticed a lot of cool websites that I had only seen recently were already in the gallery... go check it out at http://bestwebgallery.com/ - enjoy!
